Barnaby Joyce : what's the Wright angle ?

When the preselected candidate for the Federal seat of Wright was found to have kept details of a case to answer from QCAT ( Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal ) of the department of Justice and the Attorney Generals office, relating to a matter where almost $2 million in proceeds from the sale of an ill man's property over whom she had power of attorney has been withdrawn from an account without satisfying the Adult Guardian that it was for the benefit of the man, caused the preselected candidate to be dis endorsed by the LNP and open the way for a new contest for what many believe is a safe seat for whom ever gains the nod to contest the election for the LNP.

Barnaby Joyce seemed to be a supporter of the initial candidate, and has been assisting her by appearing at events such as her recent wedding, and her campaign launch.

Barnaby Joyce a Queensland Senator, is currently the leader of the Nationals in the Senate and currently the shadow minister for Regional development, Infrastructure and water.

What is interesting is his push for his own chief of Staff to take over the seat of wright, and why?

We understand that a drover's dog would romp in for the LNP in that seat and it is considered a conduit seat to a career in Federal politics, and also that the new preselected candidate has run before and is quite experienced in both business and in political processes, that is not in question.

The question is why? what is it about Wright that is so interesting to Mr Joyce, why was he so supportive of the previous candidate, and why does it now seem he has put up his own candidate for preselection.

I suppose only Mr Joyce could answer, but even if he does, would we be able to understand?

Is this a case where someone will stand and if later on another becomes available, they wll stand aside to allow that person to run?

I think if that happens the other candidates will have something to say about it.
But then one just has to look at who the President is!!!! There seems to be a bit of 'I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine'.
I think its a big stretch for the other one to become available any how.

Wright will go to the LNP candidate, no doubt, in fact a drovers dog could take the spot and it just shows that the culture in the Nationals side of the LNP hasn't changed when the preselected candidate is a new boy blow in from somewhere else and a mate of (and worker for) another National Party member.

At least this guy probably won't leave the Party once elected to go join McLindons new version of One Nation, ha ha.

One would have to wonder just
how much money the LNP has
wasted on all the billboard
signs displaying Hajnal Ban
which had already sprung up
around the countryside. High
price to pay for assuming the
seat is already won, i would
say judging by Pam Parker`s
billboard bill for the last
council election, which was
funded by the LCOC, it would
equate to tens of thousands
of dollars. The LNP should
know better than to ship in
a stooge of Barnaby Joyce`s
from St. George. LNP, Labor,
Green, whatever stripes that
a candidate is wearing, they
should have to be a resident
in the electorate which they
are wanting to be elected in.

I thought that all candidates, regardless of Local, State or Federal, had to live in their electorate.
I really think that the question needs to be asked. After all, how can a candidate represent anyone when they only have a second hand perception of the needs and lifestyle?
We have seen what happens when candidates only move into an area after they are elected - they stuff up.

The LNP ring in candidate does live 500 k's outside the electorate of Wright. However, he stated in a media article on 30 June 2010 that he would relocate to Wright before the elections.
According to him, he knows this electorate very well????

On another there is talk of "stooges " being put in place to achieve certain outcomes, this appears to be the case here, why the locals would preselect someone from so far away with so little time to understand this very diverse area is incredible and I have to say dumb.

The candidates who put their hands up, good local candidates who were at the last one overlooked for a national party LNP candidate as opposed to a former liberal party LNP candidate must have been wondering why they bothered merging only to be part of a system that is biased toward keeping the National power base goingrather than do what is best for the people.

Party politics is ruining any chance we have at real representation as a citizen unless we happen to have an issue that might get a vote.

I'm sorry but I can't support the way things have been done in Wright twice now, and yet in my opinion Barnaby has used his position and influence to ensure his candidate has been given the nod.

Isn't the president of the committee who endorsed the previous candidate for Wright and now this one also hoping to be a candidate for Division 11?

Ms Ban is quoted in the Courier Mail and on her website as saying that 'the balls of some of the hirearchy in the LNP exploded'.
I wonder if Barnaby's are still intact?

ANON 1.26pm Now won"t that be a interesting contest if one has the courage (as stated) to run against her when the time comes.

One doesn't need courage to run against her - just integrity.
I don't think she will be around for the 2012 elections - she's run out of rope.
